firealarmsystems

The results of fire at a business can be disastrous. It is vital to make sure you have the best detection and warning systems possible to protect the lives of your employees and customers.

Most companies are aware of the devastating effects of fire, and take precautions with gas, naked flames and other hazards. But faulty electrical circuits cause forty per cent of all fires in the UK. Whether a blaze is the result of an overloaded system or just a moment of carelessness, you may not know about it until it's too late.

At FireSafety International we have more than a decade of experience in designing and installing fire alarm systems all over the UK. Our satisfied customers include retail outlets, pubs and restaurants as well as industrial and commercial units of all sizes.

We wouldn't expect you to compromise on safety, which is why we don't compromise on the quality of the systems we supply.

Add to this first-class workmanship from our team of specialist engineers and FireSafety International's usual attention to detail and you can be sure of having the most effective protection from fire money can buy.

But peace of mind doesn't have to cost the Earth. Our expert purchasing team will find a system to match your needs perfectly - at a price that represents genuine value for money.

Emergency Lighting

You need to know:

Emergency Lighting is a legal requirement for fire safety and is governed by the British Standard 5266. It needs to be sufficiently bright, illuminated for enough time, and the light sources so positioned that the occupants of a building can be evacuated safely in an emergency.

emergencylighting

Emergency lighting forms a key part of health and safety legislation, but a significant proportion of businesses still have no contingency systems for when power failures occur.

Health and safety laws are not the only reason to have effective and efficient emergency lighting, when the lights go out you need to be sure your company has a system in place that not only ensures the safety and security of your employees and customers, but also limits the potential losses through non-productivity and sales.

Your company can lose power for many reasons - fire damage, network problems, other circuit damage or lack of maintenance. But when you have an emergency lighting system designed by FireSafety International you can be sure that with our wealth of knowledge and experience in the design and installation of back-up lighting systems we can keep disruption to a minimum and help you get back in business as soon as possible.

There are many factors to take into account when designing an emergency lighting system – including escape routes, emergency exits, lighting levels, fittings and the endurance period of the emergency lighting. No two buildings are the same and, therefore, in the design process, we will make sure your system meets both mandatory and your own specific requirements.

All our emergency lighting work is carried out to meet the stringent requirements of British Standard 5266-1. Combine this with the experience and professionalism of the team at FireSafety International, you can have round-the-clock confidence in your emergency lighting system.

As always, design is by our specialist in-house team, and our highly-skilled engineers carry out installation. Only the highest quality materials are used, so when power failures occur you can be sure you will have enough lighting when and where you need it most.

Gas Suppression

You need to know:

F-Gas, Fluorinated greenhouse gases are powerful greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming if released into the atmosphere. All businesses and personnel therein must hold full F-Gas certification if they install, maintains and service fire protection systems that contain F-Gases. This is a legal requirement enforced on 4th July 2011.

gassuppression gas suppresion

Fire suppression systems are used in areas of high importance that require fast automatic detection and extinguishing. It is essential that potential fires are detected and extinguished instantly and with minimal downtime and damage of the protected systems or areas.

There are many types of gas used to prevent combustion and suppression of fires but they all fall into two main categories: Oxygen Reduction and Heat Absorption

When it comes to choosing the correct system there are many considerations, depending on the environment it is to be used in, and the correct extinguishing agent needs to be chosen for the correct application. Consideration needs to be given to the room seal of the protected risk area, storage space for cylinders, installation of distribution pipe work, environmental impact, cost, etc..

In some applications, such as file server rooms and data storage facilities, the type of system used can vary from  entire room protection to individual server rack protection. This is often monitored by remote management systems and early warnings for fault and fire alert can be constantly monitored.

At FireSafety International we can take the heat out of your design requirements by using our own experienced engineers and the very latest technologies to design bespoke protection systems for your application.

CO2: The original clean agent, cost effective for unoccupied spaces, fast, effective and adaptable for a wide range of hazards

Inert gases: Argonite, Inergen, Intersafe, are environmentally friendly, containing all natural extinguishants, are human compatible, electrically non-conductive, non toxic and non residual.

Chemical agents: FM200, Novec 1230 are classed as clean agents, safe to use in occupied spaces, non corrosive, electrically non-conductive and little or no effect on the ozone layer. As a smaller quantity of agent is required compared to other clean agents, fewer cylinders are required saving floor spaces.

Silo Protection

silo Silo Fire Protection solution for silos and bunkers

Helios AMX identifies even the smallest smouldering fire and can be used almost anywhere. The aspirating smoke detector is a highly sensitive, active, latest-generation smoke detection system. In addition to a pre-signal and contamination assessment, the detector also offers the possibility of adjusting the sensitivity inaccordance with the unit’s use.

The HELIOS AMX5000 aspirating smoke detector continuously takes air samples from the silo or bunker area. These air samples are tested for carbon monoxide and smoke particle content. When several freely adjustable concentration values are exceeded, an alarm is activated and a fire extinguishing system may optionally be triggered. A specially developed filter removes the large particles from the air-dust mix that is sucked into the bunker. The fine particles and water are then removed in another procedure.

Spark Detection

The first part to our spark detection animation on the right highlights what could happen if your system is unprotected! Continue to watch following points 1 to 5 below and see how the Minimax spark detection system works.

  1. Sparks travelling through ducting are instantly identified by infrared spark detectors
  2. The spark detector relays a signal to the control panel
  3. Signal in the control panel triggers solenoid valve of automatic extinguishing unit which simultaneously activates an audible alarm
  4. Extinguishing water is released within milliseconds and injected into the duct creating a spray of water covering the entire cross section using patented 360 degree nozzle
  5. The sparks-embers are conveyed into the spray and extinguished

The Solution: VdS-Approved Minimax Spark Extinguishing System

During the manufacturing processes involved when using pneumatic conveying and air filtration systems, sparks or glowing embers can easily be produced, a single spark is sufficient to cause fire or dust explosion. Production facilities where combustible materials are being worked are most in danger. A fully automatic spark detection system will detect and extinguish sparks and embers before they reach the filter, collection or storage equipment. As the detection and extinguishing process operates during production, downtimes are avoided.

The G1 valve unit with F180 fl at spray nozzle is generally used in spark extinguishing systems to protect ducted systems, filters, dryers and other enclosed system areas, and enables the immediate release of water evenly, extinguishing over the whole tunnel’s cross section. It is activated via upstream spark detectors.

Spark detectors of the FUX 3001 range are utilised for detecting sparks in sealed ducted systems and filters. The most frequent application is in dust extraction systems where high functional reliability is required.

Sprinklers & Minifog

You need to know:

The amount of water used in the Minifog water deluge system is significantly reduced compared to a conventional sprinkler system.

Sprinklersprinkler

Water is the most natural of all extinguishants - the most plentiful and most cost efficient. Its extinguishing effect is based on its ability to absorb heat and cool. Water sprinkler systems arrive in many different forms and are often monitored and activated in a variety of ways and the general purpose of this type of system is to protect buildings and large areas that may be at risk of fire.

Minifog

Minifog, simply described, is a water spray system where special nozzles are used to atomise the water spray into very fine droplets which make the cooling properties much more effective and as a result there is a significant reduction in the amount of water required through this process.

The water entrains the heat from the fire thoroughly so the base of the fire is immediately and efficiently cooled. In addition, evaporation of the water in the fire captures a huge amount of latent heat and simultaneously blocks the supply of oxygen to the base of the fire. Therefore, the reduction of the oxygen in the immediate locality of the flame zone acts as an additional suppressant.

Minifog is suitable for various applications, but is well known for its special effectiveness in the protection of special risk areas such as continuous or multi opening presses.

The extinguishing water is applied through special nozzles so that the total surface area of the water is multiplied many times by a fine droplet formation.

The sequence of the nozzles and the optimal droplet configuration ensures that the base of the fire is still reached even if there are inhibiting elements such as thermal currents or air movement. The reduction in the amount of water required through this process is significant.

Sprinkler Systems

Sprinkler systems are automatic fire extinguishing systems which detect and extinguish a fire before it grows into a large uncontrolled blaze.

Each sprinkler head is controlled by a “burst glass” which localises the water deluge to the area of the fire source.

For areas which are not heated the “dry system”, where the pipe work is filled only with an air pressure which effectively holds the water at bay until activation, is recommended.

Foam suppression

You need to know:

With a Dry Powder or Foam system you will have a greatly reduced downtime because of fire damage, along with fast protection system restoration. You may also receive reductions in your insurance premiums and the maintenance and repair costs are low.

drypowder_foam1

Dry powder and foam extinguishing systems are very effective in the control of most types of fires. In both cases the medium used creates a blanket to cover the affected area and starves the fire of the essential oxygen it needs to burn.

Areas of application would include storage facilities, tank farms, large parking houses, airport facilities, incineration plants, refineries, chemical industries, laboratories and hazardous waste systems.

Dry Powder

Powder extinguishing systems are used for protecting against fires involving solid, liquid and gaseous materials and metal, i.e. fires classed A,B,C and D.

The extinguishing powders are fast acting and highly efficient, consisting essentially of non-toxic inorganic salts mixed with waterproofing and pouring agents.

Foam

Foam extinguishing systems are used for fires involving solid, liquid and alcohol/solvents which are categorised fires A and B.

The extinguishing foam consists of three highly effective components: water, foam concentrate and air.

Water and foam concentrate are mixed to create a foam solution. The amount of air added defines the type of foam bubbles produced and therefore utilises different extinguishing effects: cooling, smothering, covering, damming and displacing. Singly or together they ensure fast extinguishing.
